Joubert de la Ferté, Air Chief Marshal Sir Philip

Joubert de la Ferté, Air Chief Marshal Sir Philip
1897–1965
Joubert de la Ferté was a senior RAF Commander with a somewhat acrimonious temperament. In 1939 he was on duty in India and was recalled to become Assistant Chief of Air Staff and adviser both on the use of radar and on co-operation with the Royal Navy. He was promoted to become Head of Coastal Command, a force which had been neglected in favour of Bomber and Fighter Command. Joubert tried to increase its reconnaissance capabilities although he often had to divert his planes to Bomber Command duties over Germany. His outspokenness did not please the politicians he had to deal with and in the fall of 1943 Joubert was posted to Southeast Asia Command to be Deputy Chief of Staff for Information and Civil Affairs.
